An AI champions programme is one of the most effective ways for mid-market firms to accelerate AI adoption without building a large central team. The concept is simple: identify people in each department who are enthusiastic about AI, give them additional training and support, and empower them to help their colleagues adopt AI tools and identify new use cases.

The champions model works because AI adoption is fundamentally a people challenge, not a technology challenge. Champions receive structured training that covers AI fundamentals, the firm approved tools and policies, prompt engineering techniques, and governance requirements. They are the eyes and ears on the ground who can identify when colleagues are using unapproved AI tools or processing data through channels that create compliance risk.
